At the end of the winding battlements beyond her shuttered windows  
over the waves of red tiles and the intricate vineyards of Siena  
where the delicate grapes are still christened by dew  
she saw the hollow of the arches pointing  
toward St. Catherine’s shrine infinitely absolving  
the pedestrians on the narrow streets beyond the medieval piazza  
out there her husband’s infidelity was being lauded with wine
